Knights of Columbus
Freeland Council 1040

Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney (1852-90) — Apostle to the young, Protector of Christian Family Life and Founder of the Knights of Columbus, Intercede for Us.

"Knights of Columbus must be holy and must be missionaries. We need to re-Christianize our world by becoming Catholic men 100% committed to Jesus Christ and his Church. We must be leaders of Catholic families that are knit together in Christ's love and that always stand for the right and for the defense of those who are weak and vulnerable."—Dominican Father Gabriel B. O'Donnell

Knights of Columbus Honor Guard Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception
Inaugural Mass Honor Guard

On Pentecost Sunday, May 11, 2008, the Inaugural Mass of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish celebrated in Freeland, PA had the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard.

It seemed fitting this feast day which commemorates the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles is also Mother's Day of 2008. What a joyful combination of celebrating the birth of His Church and honoring the Blessed Virgin Mother. Dedicating the new parish in the name of the Immaculate Conception of Mary could not have been done at a more appropriate time.

Mary and the Word of God
A model for our lives

The September 2008 issue of Columbia magazine contained a special report about the October 5-26 Vatican synod "The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church." The article, Mary and the Word of God - a model for our lives, written by Dr. Edward Sri describes how the Blessed Mother's life reveals a method for us to approach God's life-transforming word. Dr. Sri is a brother knight of the St. Benedict College Council 4708 in Atchison, KS.
